Saving our oceans

  The ocean is at risk. There are many things that are harming the oceans. For example pollution. Pollution is arming not just the ocean but things in the ocean. The pollution and other things that are being put and going into the ocean, aren't just affecting that but other living things outside of the ocean. It may not look that bad right now, but it will get worse if we don't do something about this now. We need to start now before it’s too late to go back.  

One of the many things affecting our oceans is oil. There are many oil spills and oil being dumped into the ocean. Many times oil is dumped into a river, or there is an oil spill, the oil from there continues its way to the ocean. Because of that marine life and animals can die, because of the toxins in the oil. There can also be oil spills from boats. This affects the same thing, marine life, and animals. 

If there is an oil spill, or oil is dumped into the ocean or a river, or any water source, there is a way to clean it up. For large areas, you use a skimmer. A skimmer is a device that cleans up an oil spill by cycling through the spill and absorbs not the water but the oil from the body of water, and cleans the water from the dirty oil. 

Another thing that is harming the ocean is pollution and trash. There are about 14 billion pieces of trash dumped into the ocean every year. DId you also know that there is an island of trash in the middle of the ocean that is about the size of Texas. This was already briefly explained in the beginning, but there is way more to know. Plastic bottles are one of the main pieces of trash in our ocean, along with plastic bags. Both of these items need to be stopped, and if they are then many lives of marine animals and lives will be saved. Trash can act as food to marine animals, and they can die or become sick, and many times get caught in the trash and cant get out. 

You can help save many lives of marine life, by using reusable shopping bags at the grocery store, instead of the plastic bags they give you. Instead of using plastic water bottles, you can use a reusable water bottle, metal water bottles last a long time, and most of them are sturdy. Also many stores use paper bags as a replacement of plastic bags. You can also use reusable containers instead of plastic sandwich bags.

Did you know that sewage is also a main problem that is hurting our oceans. As all of the other results, this kills marine life, and animals. When the sewage goes into oceans, it has bacteria in it. This bacteria can cause diseases in the water/ocean which can harm many animals, and marine life. 

These are all reasons we need to take action now. We need to help save our oceans. Even if you can do as little as not using plastic water bottles, it still makes a difference. The ocean being polluted can cause not only marine life and animals to die, but also global warming to get worse. It can cause many other things to be harmed on our planet if it is not stopped. Please take action on this and do even the littlest things to help our planet, it matters.
